Rebuilding After Waldo
On June 23 of 2012, a fire began sweeping through the Waldo Canyon community of Colorado Springs, burning 344 homes and leaving many people displaced - both physically and emotionally. The HBA was a resource for homeowners in the recovery efforts that followed the disaster.
As the recovery from the Waldo Canyon fire gained momentum, one of the projects identified by homeowners was a rebuilding of the Mountain Shadows Community Park. HBA Cares participated in the planning for the park rebuild from the beginning.
The proceeds from the sale of a building lot donated to support the recovery effort allowed HBA Cares, along with the support of its project partners, to purchase and construct a new playground and pavilion.
The dedication took place on September 10, 2014. HBA Cares also participated in funding of a memorial located in the park.
