This year has been an exciting year for HBA Cares! In addition to renewing its logo, mission and website, HBA Cares has also undertaken a good number of projects and events. Following are some of 2018’s highlights for HBA Cares:
Dream Centers: HBA Cares and Aspen View Homes are currently constructing two new buildings for Mary’s Home to open up more space for single mothers transitioning out of homelessness.
Mobile home renovations: Partnering with Family Promise, HBA Cares is renovating and landscaping several mobile homes for families transitioning out of homelessness.
Accessible housing: HBA Cares came alongside the HBA’s Remodelers Council to build ramps at a Cheyenne Village home for adults with intellectual and development disabilities.
St. Jude volunteer landscaping: HBA Cares partnered with Covington Homes to landscape several St. Jude Children’s Hospital houses.
Food drive: GE Johnson and HBA Cares collected 48,000 pounds for the Care & Share Food Bank. This will feed 125 people three times a day for a full year.
Creek Week: Volunteers from the HBA and HBA Cares came out to clean up Fountain Creek on a sunny Friday afternoon.
New roofs: The El Paso County Roofing Contractors Association and HBA Cares teamed up to donate $2,000 to Family Life Services for roofing repairs.
General construction consulting: HBA Cares offered general construction consulting to Homeward Pikes Peak on repairs they were considering doing.
Climb for Courage: HBA Cares and GE Johnson raised funds for the Children’s Hospital through Climb for Courage sponsorships.
Pikes Peak Hill Climb: With the help of George Hess of Vantage Homes, HBA Cares raised $8,783.02 from sponsorships from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
Built to Last: HBA Cares partnered with Partners in Housing to raise funds at the spectacular Built to Last event to kick off the Parade of Homes.
Tee boxes at the PAC golf tournament and the Emerging Leaders All Members Cup golf tournament: HBA Cares raised money at the tee boxes in both of these annual HBA golf tournaments.
Urban Peak: Through an online fundraiser, HBA Cares raised over $1,000 for Urban Peak, a local organization that helps youth to exit homelessness.
Holiday Party Raffle: A total of $3,560 was raised for HBA Cares at the annual HBA holiday party this year. Doug Fritts of Builders FirstSource, the winner of the raffle, generously donated $1,500 of his winnings back to HBA Cares.
Benefit concert sponsored by Oakwood Homes: Oakwood Homes sponsored a benefit concert for HBA Cares at the new SCP Hotel featuring country artists Brandon Lay, Riley Green, and Travis Denning. A final count of the proceeds is still being calculated, but preliminary estimates are $10,000 - $15,000—all of which will go to HBA Cares to support transitional and accessible housing projects in the community. — — —
